A few weeks before my wedding day I was informed that it
would soon become just another day.I
argued that such complacence would never overtake the day I was married.Such feelings, I thought, would diminish the
occasion.
Here I am, 32 years later, and I’m proud to say the other person was totally
mistaken. Our wedding anniversary hasn’t been relegated to the storage bins
of our lives. It remains a wonderful moment to celebrate.
Don’t get me wrong, the frivolity has
diminished.I mean, we haven’t saved a
piece of wedding cake to nibble on every year (yuck!) and we were married in
the pre-video days so the memories are only in our minds, but we do have an audio cassette of the ceremony which we
play now and then. However, I must admit
it was hard to find a cassette player the last time we listened so we sat in
our oldest car and cherished the moment all over again!
We were so young, almost,
but not quite, 21.The tuxes were an
awful color called camel…except for mine which was white with tails. It made my backside look even larger! My bride, Ann, is as beautiful today as she was then, the major difference is
that her long, flowing hair has been short for years.
In this world of
hooking up and Hollywood romance, we’re not alone. We’re honored to be in the company of
millions of others who still are delighted to celebrate the anniversary of
their first and only wedding.
