Always a media hound, the
Internet is my ideal
invention.It provides audio, video,
words and graphics and you can change directions faster than flipping TV
channels with the remote.The
communication capabilities it supports are endless and along with them
comes
the voice of the public….except, that instead of a New England accent or
a
Southern drawl, we get misspellings and very bad grammar.
Teachers of the King’s English
must be terrorized
by the abuse of the language.Linguistic
experts are certainly fascinated by the displaced words and removal of
vowels
from texted words. As for me, I casually
search for words and phrases on chat rooms and comment posts which are
part of
something I call “Speaking Internet”.A
few examples I’ve found and my interpretations:
PRE-MADONNA
(prima
donna):I say this is a female pop star of the
70's.For example, Olivia Newton-John
would be a pre-madonna.
INSINNUENDO (innuendo):I say this is the act of committing uendo outside of marriage. For example, it's likely Tiger Woods had insinnuendo.
MOROON (moron) –
I say
this is an abbreviation for
a dessert made with coconut or some kind of other “nut” as in “May I
have
another moroon?”
ESCAPE GOAT
(scapegoat):I believe this a method of
rapid
departure from a difficult situation using a farm animal.
"Give
a
person a fish and you feed them for a day; teach that person to use the
Internet and they won't bother you for weeks!"
