As I’ve said many times before, there’s nothing
more cherished by our family than the freedom
of a drive – often a long drive to nowhere. What many people would call wasteful of both energy and time, we
describe as therapeutic - for there
isn’t a problem or issue that doesn’t shrink along the way.
Drives permit us to take our minds off of everyday-ness…you
know, the routine
around which our lives are built.Occasionally there is a destination in mind when we pull away
from the
house.More often than not, we just
go.Usually a stop for food is included,
but not always.
Recently, a Sunday
drive to nowhere was twice blessed.First, because the dear couple we picked up along the way offered
to
fill our tank with fuel from their farm.It wasn’t the first time they’ve done so and I hope their day in
our limousine covered the cost of the gas
in many ways.Second, we visited a
friend who opened a restaurant and
when paying our bill, she said it was on the house.
All in all, only the laughter outweighed the fellowship. It
was indeed a wonderful day
for a beneficial drive.
