Have you noticed how loud people talk lately? It’s as if everyone has suddenly undergone major hearing
loss. This seems especially true at restaurants. Perhaps I’m nosy - I can’t help but hear
most conversations going on around me. My theory is people always
elevate their voices when speaking on cell
phones and since we’re on those things all the time, we’ve just naturally
brought our speaking voices up to the same level.
Regardless, I – and the vast majority of the other patrons at the restaurant –
recently overheard a discussion between two people concerning the positive
attributes of another. Whoever they were talking about would have been
pleased because they were described as pleasant and good looking with “a keen sense of human”. Yes, a
keen sense of human!
After cleaning the ice tea off of my chin, I gave
some thought to what I heard and instead of mentally condemning the speaker for
incorrectly saying “a keen sense of humor, I realized that her malapropism was perfect.Imagine
the world if we all had a keener sense of human.
